Emily and I recently took a trip down south via Atlanta to Savannah to Hilton Head to Charleston to Asheville. The purpose of the trip was to check out SCAD following her acceptance into their historic preservation grad program. The campus was jaw-dropping, impressive, inspirational. All of the classrooms are in antique repurposed buildings (from churches to industrial warehouses) and the amount and quality of the resources on campus was absolutely astonishing.
"Some departments have more resources than some countries."
Hilton Head was not very exciting, just resort-style living on an island for the filthy rich. Then came Charleston. Talk about old southern money. Absolutely beautiful—beautiful people, architecture, food, drinks—everything was truly top notch. Overwhelmingly so, we felt a little out of place. We had a great time nonetheless and some of my favorite spots worthy of checking out were Bon Banh Mi, The Gin Joint, and Two Boroughs Larder. Fuzzco seems to have their creative little hands in a ton of the premiere downtown spots, great work.

From there we drove to Asheville, which was literally Bellingham transplanted to the Appalachian range. Super fun town—breweries on every corner, bikes everywhere, great food and in my opinion the best setting of all the towns we visited. Wicked Weed Brewery had some of the best beer I've ever had. We also saw Steve Earle eating dinner two tables down from us at Luella's BBQ, hells bells. It was a very comforting and relaxing town to wrap up our vacation, felt like we were home already. We stayed in the Pines Cottages which were very cozy, just north of town. Anyways, all in all the perfect trip. I'm sure she will post pictures to her blog, you're welcome to go check them out!
